Talented bakers called to rise to the occasion at Thame Food Festival
Once again this September, the streets of Thame will be taken over by the town’s rather wonderful food festival, now in its eighth year. Saturday 26th September is the big day!
As ever, we’ll be out in force at the festival with our fabulous pop-up pub serving plenty of the good stuff to visitors who flock to the event from near and far.
This year, talented bakers everywhere are being called to rise to the occasion and raise money for good local causes by taking part in the festival’s first ever bake-off, The Big Thame Bake!
Whether you’re passionate about pastry or fanatic about fondants, The Big Thame Bake is the challenge you’ve been waiting for. It’s your chance to shine and put your creativity to the test, with categories to charge your imagination whatever your baking skill or age.
Enter now and you could be crowned a winner. Not only that, you could also win a fantastic prize and get to meet some of the biggest names in the world of baking, including Great British Bake Off’s Frances Quinn, Luis Troyano, Miranda Gore-Browne and patisserie legend Benoit Blin from Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, to name but a few.
All you have to do to take part is enter online here and pay your £5 entry fee for each category you want to go for. There are ten great ones to stretch your abilities and give you the chance to show the organisers what you can do, whether you’re an enthusiastic beginner or expert home baker.
Bake your creation and then bring it to Thame Town Hall either between 3-4.30pm on Friday 25th September, or by 10am on 26th September. Here, it will be put through its paces by experts from the baking world including food writer and Big Thame Bake organiser Jane Hornby, plus the newly formed Thame Belles WI, with prizes for all the winning bakes.
To whet your appetite, we’re got a delectable recipe for a Victoria Sponge here from Jane Hornby.
Don’t worry if you’re more of an eater than a baker, you can still play your part by popping along to The Town Hall on the day of the festival from 1.30pm onwards. It’ll be transformed into a fabulous vintage tea room courtesy of The Thame Belles WI. Tuck into cakes from the bake-off and have a reviving cuppa before you head back out into the hustle and bustle of the brilliant Thame Food Festival.
